COLORADO TODDLER RAISES FUNDS TO HELP LOCAL PREMIE WHO NEEDS TRANSPLANT

ST. LOUIS, MO—An 18-month-old Colorado toddler, Whitney Fraser, is raising funds to help a St. Louis premie who needs a small bowel transplant.  Fraser, who was also born prematurely on September 5, 2005 at 28 weeks weighing only 1 pound 7 ounces is traveling to St. Louis next week to participate in the Diaper Dash on Saturday, April 14, as part of the Spirit of Saint Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend®.  To date he has raised $1,371 and is well on his way to his goal of raising $1,500 to help offset the costs of a transplant for Zachary Solomon.  Solomon was born prematurely in August 2006 weighing in at 2 pounds 5.5 ounces.

At five weeks of age Solomon developed Necrotizing Enterocolitis, a disease which causes the small bowel to die. On September 11, 2006 he was rushed into emergency surgery at St. Johns Mercy Medical Center where surgeons removed all but six centimeters of his small bowel. With only six centimeters left, Solomon's only chance for long-term survival is a small bowel, liver and pancreas transplant. "For the Love of Zachary" fundraising campaign has been created through the Children's Organ Transplant Association to offset the costs associated with the transplant. 100% of funds raised go towards those costs.

In addition, on Sunday April 15th, Jim Scheer who is President of Innovative Technology Group, A Color-Art Company, is organizing a group to walk the half marathon. Each participant will raise a minimum of $500.  Currently there are 18 walkers signed up for this event.  Interested parties can find more information about how to help Zachary Solomon at www.cotaforzacharys.com

“Zachary is a fighter and his smile gives his family the strength to fight along side him everyday!  It is with the help of family, friends, co-workers and even people we have never met, that is going to give Zachary the best opportunity to live a long and happy life,” Danny Solomon, Uncle of Zachary Solomon
